Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
